Next Player Please
Mixed Reality Party Game, ArchLevel GmbH, Released October 2024
Next Player Please (NPP) is a innovative mixed-reality (MR) party game that transforms VR from a solo experience into a dynamic, social event. Designed for groups, NPP uses a „Pass and Play“ (PAP) mechanic, allowing players to take turns wearing a single headset while engaging in fast-paced mini-games like fishing, fortress-building, and treasure hunting.
Unlike traditional VR games that isolate the headset wearer, NPP leverages passthrough MR technology to keep the active player connected to their surroundings. While one player is immersed in the game world, the others aren’t just spectators—they actively participate using a second controller to assist, sabotage, or react in real time. Whether it’s deflecting projectiles, tossing virtual obstacles, or using distractions to throw off the active player’s focus, everyone at the table is part of the action. With support for both hand tracking and controllers, NPP offers an accessible and intuitive gameplay experience. The game thrives on social interaction and friendly competition, making it perfect for parties, game nights, and casual gatherings. Unlike other local VR party games that require multiple headsets, Next Player Please makes multiplayer VR accessible with just one device, while still offering the option to connect additional headsets for expanded play. By blending physical and virtual gameplay, Next Player Please redefines how people engage with VR, turning the headset into a shared gaming hub rather than a solitary device.
